"Love it" is utterly, totally the wrong wording.

This one is pitch-black dark. It is painful. It is terrifying.

it's not the easiest read. It's not so much a page turner because you dread what's next...especially if you just read the table of contents. Then you'll be going...OMFG, noooo....

This book is not one you will soon forget. It's well executed, it's powerful, and it is harder than heck to read.

Shadow Unit 3 eBook Emma Bull Elizabeth Bear Kyle Cassidy Reviews

Tightly written by an expert crew of professional authors, this series doesn't just offer a filler for people longing for more Criminal Minds or X Files--it offers a better series.
Can't say enough about this series. Only that I cannot get enough. Love the writing styles, the characters, the storylines, and cannot wait to read the next book. Just a bit to short. But I really got into this one. Already have the next book and want to start reading it now. So...try it you'll like it, got to go.
Not going to say much about this as I read SU 1-12 as quickly as I possible could because I couldn't put them down and they were all there and oh my goodness I couldn't stop myself. This review will be put into each of the books mentioned. Will obviously pre-order the next one as soon as I notice it being available to do so.
The main "episode" was close to disturbing, in a good way. No spoilers, but if you've read #1 & #2, this installment goes in an unexpected, direction. Really enjoyed it.

I really love the background material -- windows into the character's past, present, etc.
This series is terrific. The format is new to series writing as far as I know It is a series of case-solving episodes interspersed with emails between the main characters in a special FBI group. The episodes are novella-length adventures and the emails flesh out the relations among the people in a group (who are all remarkably interesting and observant and troubled people) without slowing up the action in the episodes. This is a great improvement over the usual series-of-novels type of adventure series.

This is the best of the four I have read so far. I wish I could give Shadow Unit 6 stars, but I can't The alternative is to give the others 4 stars, but they deserve 5 and I don't want to cheat them.
If you are a fan of Heroes, if Fringe is on your must-watch list, then you will really enjoy this series. What sets Shadow Unit apart from many other more formulaic "science-fiction/mystery" attempts is the excellent writing and characterization by the authors. This series is very well-written. Like a television series, many of the stories are written by different authors. To clarify--this is not one series told through one character's point of view. Instead, this is a series of "episodes", each told from a different character's point of view. While the plots are exciting to read, the key strength of this series is the large number of strong and interesting characters. Shadow Unit Three is the best so far, as its primary focus is on the development of one of the primary characters in the book. I strongly recommend this series.
I have now read up to "Episode" 12 - and the quality of writing remains intense, breath-taking, and deeply personal. There are some passages - the technical brilliance of which simply takes my breath away.

First, there's the intense, super-real scenes unfolding in Super High Def in your mind's eye... Then there's the wringer your emotions get put through - which you only notice AFTERwards... and, finally, there's the going back to see how on God's beautiful Earth did the writer manage to WRITE such an experience!

These authors turn the simple acts of sitting down, walking into a room, or offering someone a cup of coffee, into mesmerizing moments of tension-building or character development. By the time the "real" action happen, all the carefully (and invisibly) laid emotional depth-charges go off with the military precision of a complex demolition job.

Phew - I LOVE IT!
I've also cried a few times. Seriously.
