Fastian An Edgeweir Tale The Weaver Saga Book 1 eBook Jay Finn

I am not a native English speaker, but I can see the need of some serious editorial work. Not that the book lacks a lot but it would be SO MUCH better with it. I sincerely think that Jay Finn can be one of the great writers of fantasy with the help of a good editor. Or maybe with the guidance of a group of good readers... Any honest feedback is important.

On grammar... When you spot more than a few grammar mistakes in a book, especially if you are not an English expert, you get annoyed. So, I got a little annoyed. It is easy for a writer to overlook a structural mistake, since they almost always devote themselves to the story and the characters. Of course, this doesn't change the drafty look of the book. I asked Google, so I know approximately how much a good editor costs. It is A LOT (and probably well deserved). But one can still ask friends or even a selected group of people from the social media for comments and corrections, then revise accordingly. The whole process of publication rests on the self-published writer's shoulders, so this process should be studied carefully and mimicked as much as possible. I think a few more revisions would have been good for the book.

The language is plain. The chapters are brief. The dialogs are well placed. I would have liked there to be more visual descriptions, more details. I was seeing the characters and their environment through a fog, never clear enough. This, in my experience, didn't make the story less riveting, just less tangible.

The characters were intriguing. There were a handful of times a main character's inner conflicts were portrayed splendidly. I wondered why there wasn't more of that. The connection with the characters comes and goes, sometimes making them seem superficial and sometimes very much alive.

The story itself is the best thing about the book. It isn't epic, no. Because epics are full of clichés . This one comes right from the heart.

Fastian An Edgeweir Tale The Weaver Saga Book 1 eBook Jay Finn Reviews

I picked up Fastian because I had read Jay Finn's "Looking Back" and "Beneath the Darkness" some time ago. I absolutely love his style of writing that creates wonderful visual images and vivid characters. Fastian is no exception.

I have this thing about characters who are... well... not in character. Too sappy, too macho, too sweet. But no eye-rolling here. The characters are very much believable. Especially the very understated Fastian. His emotions run deep, but on the surface, very controlled. Caring and steadfast. A cold-blooded killer. But all for a good cause.

Jay Finn lets us follow the diverse group of rebels, who are the thorn in the side of "The Nation" as they attempt to find a way to bring the corrupt system down. The undercurrent of a love seemingly lost in this fantasy novel drives Fastian's own story forward and promises trials and complexities as the rest of the story unfolds. Umm, Mr. Finn... I hope there's a sequel to this....
This is an interesting book. The story is good, and the two main characters (especially Fastian) are depicted well. Fastian is a nicely flawed character. There are enough unexplained elements in the story to make it not feel dumbed-down.

I read it, I liked it, but it was not a completely positive experience for me. Why?

The editing! I understand that the author doesn't have the editing resources of the larger publishing houses, but there were many grammatical and spelling errors, and that detracted from the reading experience. I'm not pedantic about grammar, and expect there to be some mistakes in every book I read, but this one had enough errors to interfere with my enjoyment of the story.

The phrasing was also sometimes stilted and occasionally the phrases used were completely wrong.

The biggest issue that spoiled the reading experience somewhat is the fact that the book just doesn't read like a finished work. It is more like a rough draft of a book. It's hard to explain what exactly is wrong with it, but most people who make it through the book will notice that it is choppy.

Anyway, I hope Mr. Finn continues with the series and hones his writing skills as he moves through the books. I'm certainly interested enough to stick around and see where it gets to.
Amazing writing, a real page turner that left me waiting for the follow up!!
My primer libro en ingles y no podía haber seleccionado uno mejor, es maravilloso, te envuelves y te sientes parte de él, su aventura, desdichas y sueños.... Felicidades Jay Finn
This is a story that will keep you guessing and wanting for more. A book well written. The story is entertaining. If you like to read fantasy, this is a book for you. I can't wait for the second book to be out.
Having read the author's short stories for free on (I love doing this) when I seen that they had a book I decided to buy it. Also I was drawn in by the cover!

After the first 2-3 chapters of setting the scene and developing the characters the book then takes off into an epic journey with the unlikely pairing of 2 characters in a quest to help bring down the "Nation". It's a really enjoyable story/journey, I loved the contrasting characters and the book has a root for the under dog feel to it.

It is a fantasy novel, so if you like Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones it has that feel to it but in a completely fresh way.

I recently read "The book thief" as there was a lot of hype about it, but ironically this book gave me much more enjoyment. I would recommend this book.
So I can never quite word what I want to say accurately when I try and write a review. So instead I'll be blunt and truthful. This book was very well written and very engaging to read. From the characters interactions, and the plot, but most unique and interesting to me was the magic. I simply love the system of magic that was used. The story felt as though there is still so much to learn and find out about, but I truly loved the ending. On the one hand it was a great fun read, but on the other now I'm annoyed for the wait for book 2. All in all I'm beyond stoked I bought this book and have already recommended it to several friends.
